Ponteland to Callerton travel corridor
Ponteland to Callerton travel corridor
Plans to implement a walking and cycling corridor between the Ponteland and Callerton Parkway.
Background
We have successfully bid for £1.4 million funding via the central government 'Transforming Cities Fund' to implement a walking and cycling corridor between the Ponteland and Callerton Parkway. This will extend towards Newcastle Airport and promote use of the nearby metro system.
The corridor improves sustainable travel options for residents, workers, learners and visitors, not just between Ponteland and Callerton Parkway, but with further connectivity within the region and beyond.
This scheme is just one of several active travel improvements that are being delivered in Northumberland.
These schemes will build upon the current walking and cycling offer in Northumberland working towards a connected route for users to enjoy.

Awards
The scheme won the Chartered Institute of Highways Transportation Sustainability project of year award.
We commissioned a North East company 'Streets Systems' to deploy a series of cameras prior to scheme construction. The cameras will capture traffic volumes, modal split and even 'near miss' information as a proactive measure for road safety. Northumberland County Council has also commissioned 'Envirowatch' to measure air quality.
This information will help us review and consider schemes post completion, the information is stored on a dashboard and available to the public and neighbouring authorities.
We teamed up with I-glo who specialise in cycle specific products that brings together glow in the dark technology to ensure cycle routes are visible day and night. Road markers were deployed at regular intervals along the route.
