Active travel corridors
Active travel corridors
Safer routes promote walking, cycling, and less car use by 2026.
Funded by UK Government, active travel corridors in Hexham to Corbridge and West to East Bedlington.
Funding and project background
Northumberland County Council (NCC) bid for funding via the 'Levelling Up Fund'. This was to implement measures forming active travel corridors in Hexham, Corbridge, and Bedlington.
The funding supports local authorities and drives productivity through public and sustainable transport investments.
Objectives
- reduce the number of Northumberland residents living in the top 30% most deprived areas nationally
- provide the right infrastructure to enable the delivery of development sites
- facilitate a reduction in the number of trips made by private cars within Hexham and Bedlington
- reduce road traffic collisions involving pedestrians and cyclists by 10% along the routes
