Hexham to Corbridge travel corridor
Hexham to Corbridge travel corridor
The UK Government is funding active travel corridors in Tynedale to create easier, safer, and greener routes.
The investment in Hexham will connect the village of Corbridge with Hexham town centre. Improvements to the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in Hexham town centre will also be delivered as part of the proposals. The route will improve walking and cycling infrastructure by delivering a segregated corridor connecting residents to employment, education, and leisure facilities, whilst providing a link to Hexham railway and bus station.

Feedback from the Hexham to Corbridge consultation
In Spring 2023 we held a public consultation, both in person and online.
The project team attended to discuss the scheme and answer any questions.
Feedback from the consultation has been summarised below, with an update from the design team.
Increase the level of segregation along the route so that walkers don't have to be too mindful of passing cyclists
Update: increased from 20% to 50% across the route. Warning signs along the route to be included for cyclists to slow down across shared space sections.
Increase the level of protection for cyclists when crossing Devils Water Bridge and Corbridge Bridge
Update: a modelling exercise has been undertaken. Additional provision included as part of signal control.
Provide a more direct route around Hexham Bus Station
Update: a new route through the car park takes out complicated crossing arrangements offering a much more direct means of navigating this section.
