Bedlington travel corridor
Bedlington travel corridor
Enhanced walking routes, rail links, and community engagement ensure better connectivity.
Funded by the UK Government, the West to East Bedlington project aims to create a safer, greener active travel corridor.
Background
The Bedlington Active Travel Corridor will connect the west of Bedlington to the east of the town.
As part of the scheme, segregated walking and cycling facilities will be provided to better connect residents to employment, education and leisure facilities within Bedlington and improved connections to the wider Northumberland North East area. The corridor will provide a direct link to Bedlington Railway station, set to reopen as part of the Northumberland Line in 2025, providing rail travel between Ashington and Newcastle.
Tree removal consultation
During development of the scheme, the project team go through many stages of route design. In these stages potential impact on features on the bounds of the route are considered and where appropriate or possible, mitigating engineering or management solutions are put in place.
Unfortunately, the project team have determined that there is no alternative solution in delivering the project than to remove 4 trees.

Feedback from the Bedlington consultation
In Spring 2023 we undertook public consultation, both in person and online via the online consultation tool, citizen space. The project team were on hand to discuss the scheme and answer any questions. Feedback from the consultation has been summarised below, with an update from the design team.
Provide better maintenance of existing routes
Update: maintenance team capturing data on all active travel routes across the network to be included as part of their routine maintenance.
Provide a better route around Aldi connecting to the main high street
Update: a more direct route has been proposed.
Provide infrastructure that ties into the various schools
Update: this is an ongoing process, surveys are being undertaken to carefully consider impact on all traffic.
