Apply or renew disabled and companion bus passes
Concessionary travel pass for disabled individuals or companions, including eligibility and application steps.
Disabled person eligibility criteria
You have one of the following disabilities:
- registered blind or partially sighted
- severely or profoundly deaf
- without speech
- without the use of both arms
- walking disability
- significant learning disability
- would be refused a licence to drive a motor vehicle, or have had a licence withdrawn on the grounds of physical fitness, other than on the grounds of persistent misuse of alcohol or drugs
For example:- uncontrolled epilepsy
- liability to sudden attacks of giddiness or fainting
- unable to read a registration plate in good light within 20.5 metres (with lenses)
Unable to travel alone
To get a companion's bus pass, you must have a disabled person's bus pass.
Your companion can be any friend, relative, or carer. It doesn't have to be the same person each time.
In order to be eligible you must be in receipt of:
- higher/enhanced rate care component of Disability Living Allowance/ Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- higher rate Attendance Allowance issued by the Department of Work and Pensions
- certified as blind and in consequence is registered as blind in a register
- confirmation from a specialist doctor, independent health professional, registered medical practitioner, EHCP Officer confirming that you are unable to travel alone

What happens next
We will aim to send your pass within 15 working days of receiving your application.
To ensure we can do this, please provide all the necessary supporting evidence with your application.
If your application is unclear or incomplete, we will have to contact you. This will result in a delay in your application.
Renew your pass
To renew a pass, you will use the same application process as you do to apply.
This should be done 28 days before your current pass is due to expire.

Since you last applied, your eligibility may have changed. Make sure you check that you are still eligible before applying.
