Bus pass conditions of use

How to use your concessionary travel pass.

Within Northumberland

Disabled and companion pass users

Can travel for free all day, any day.

Older person pass users

Can travel from 9am on weekdays and all day on weekends and bank holidays.

If a holder of an older person's pass has a hospital appointment, they can travel before 9am if they have the hospital appointment letter as proof.

Outside Northumberland

Pass holders can travel for free on any off-peak local bus in England. If in any doubt about which bus you can travel on, contact the local operator.

Metro trains

Your concessionary travel pass cannot be used on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Residents with a valid pass can buy a Metro Gold Card for free off-peak Metro travel.

Travelling to and from Scotland

You can travel on the following cross-border bus routes between Northumberland and Scotland with an English concessionary travel pass, as long as your journey starts or ends in England. This is made possible through an agreement with the Scottish Borders Council.

Scottish passes

Passes issued in Scotland are generally not available for use on buses in England.

The Scottish authority may offer travel in Northumberland on cross-border routes.
