The Bedlington Active Travel Corridor will connect the west of Bedlington to the east of the town. As part of the scheme, segregated walking and cycling facilities will be provided to better connect residents to employment, education and leisure facilities within Bedlington and improved connections to the wider Northumberland North East area.  The corridor will provide a direct link to Bedlington Railway station, set to reopen as part of the Northumberland Line in 2025, providing rail travel between Ashington and Newcastle.

Feedback from the Bedlington consultation

In Spring 2023 we undertook public consultation, both in person and online via the online consultation tool, citizen space.  The project team were on hand to discuss the scheme and answer any questions.  Feedback from the consultation has been summarised below, with an update from the design team.

  • Provide better maintenance of existing routes.

Update: Maintenance team capturing data on all active travel routes across the network to be included as part of their routine maintenance.

  • Provide a better route around Aldi connecting to the main high street.

Update: More direct route proposed.

  • Provide infrastructure that ties into the various schools.

Update: Ongoing process, surveys being undertaken to carefully consider impact on all traffic.
