What can be taken to a Household Waste Recovery Centre (tip)
What items can be taken to our tips.
The mixed recycling containers for plastic bottles, paper, cans and aerosols have been removed from the following HWRC sites:
- Allendale
- Haltwhistle
- Hexham
- Prudhoe
- Berwick
They'll also be removed from Wooler and North Sunderland sometime soon. It was deemed unnecessary to have these containers at these sites as the contents can go in a regular household recycling bin. They will remain at:
- Morpeth
- North Seaton
- Bebside
- Alnwick
DIY waste includes:
- ceramic pipes
- sinks
- pedestals
- toilets
- bidets
- shower screens
- windowpanes
- bricks
- breeze blocks
- concrete and paving slabs
- gravel
- stone
- sand
- rubble
- hard core
- tarmac
- plasterboard
- tiles
- slates
- soil
Standard domestic waste includes:
- bagged general household waste
- garden waste
- cardboard
- glass bottles
- TVs
- small electrical appliances
- wood
- carpets
- bulky items of household waste, such as old furniture
- mattresses
- scrap metal
- drinks cartons, for example, Tetra Paks
- comingled materials, for example, paper, card, plastic bottles, aluminium and steel cans
- fluorescent tubes
- batteries, both household and vehicle
- DIY waste, for example, soil, rubble, and plasterboard (charges apply, we accept credit card payments only)
- all white goods, for example, fridges and cookers
- used engine oil and gas cylinders
- vape tubes
- emulsion paint (ensure tin is well bagged and put in the general waste skip)

- batteries - household and vehicle
- construction waste, such as soil, rubble and plasterboard (disposal fees apply - credit card payments only)
- tyres (maximum 5 per year per resident)
- compost sales have now resumed, where applicable (credit card payments only).
- all white goods (provided they can be carried by one person)
- used engine oil and gas cylinders (must be empty)
