Re-register a birth
Re-register a birth
After marriage
It is a legal requirement to re-register the birth after the parents have entered a marriage or civil partnership.
You must complete form LA1 on gov.uk and then call us to book your appointment:
Telephone: 0345 600 6400
Only one parent will need to attend the appointment with:
- original birth certificate
- original marriage or civil partnership certificate
- appropriate ID
In certain circumstances, applications may have to be referred to the General Register Office for approval.
Add father's details
You can re-register to add your child’s natural father’s details if they were not added at the original registration.
You must complete Form 185 available on GOV.UK.
Once complete, call us to book an appointment:
Telephone: 01670 622 378
Both parents will need to attend with:
- the original birth certificate
- appropriate ID
If court decisions have been made, the application may need to be approved by the General Register Office.
In both cases, re-registration is free and you can order updated birth certificates after your appointment.
