Road safety education in schools
We encourage and work with schools to promote road safety education and training for the children and young people in their care.
We can deliver provide information, assemblies, lessons and pedestrian and cycle training. Further information on all of these can be found below.
- Free Resources and Road Safety Information for schools: Local and national campaigns, lesson and assembly resources, for pedestrian training please contact the Road Safety Coordinator, tips for school trips, and support for victims, plus much more.
- Be Bright Be Seen campaign runs from October to December, this campaign focuses on the outfits we wear and how these can helps drivers notice us more quickly at dusk or when dark.
- Assemblies and Training, where possible NCC can give assemblies on many road safety issues, provide a variety of workshops that may link to a national campaign and provide pedestrian training.

- Learning to Drive or Ride a Motorcycle For schools where children may be learning to drive a car or ride a motorbike, these links can be shared with young people. Other useful links can include Tips for the parents of new drivers., Free practice theory and hazard perception tests.
- Cycle Training: every child in Northumberland is eligible for cycle tuition through the Bikeability scheme and administered by the Bikeability Trust. Information on the range of Bikeability courses available here. Northumberland County Council have engaged The Cycle Partnership to deliver the range of Bikeability courses to all schools in the county.
