Road gullies

Gullies in public areas are regularly cleaned and maintained by the council.

The landowner must look after gullies on private land.

Drainage in private houses

Northumbrian Water looks after all drains and sewers in Northumberland connected to the public sewage system.

You're only responsible for the section of pipe that serves your property.

If a section of pipe is shared or is outside of your property's boundaries, contact Northumbrian Water.

Clearing or repairing drains

Northumberland County Council is not responsible for clearing drains on private or commercial properties. You can contact a private company who will come and clear the blockage.

If you're a council tenant, contact your housing agency.
