North Seaton Road Active Travel corridor

North Seaton Road Active Travel corridor

Plans to implement a walking and cycling corridor along North Seaton Road between the town centre and Newbiggin Road.

Background

This project is part funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the North East Combined Authority, supplemented by a local contribution.

In total this equates to over £2 million towards active travel improvements in Ashington. The route will offer sustainable connectivity to the likes of:

  • the high street
  • local services
  • the Northumberland Line

The works are being coordinated and connected to other planned improvements for the area.

The corridor enhances sustainable travel for residents, workers, and learners, with further connectivity through the town center and Ashington railway or bus station.

Users will benefit from new and improved surface treatment of footways and carriageways, in addition to:

  • street furniture
  • public realms works
  • lighting
  • traffic signing
  • road markings

This scheme is just one of several active travel improvements that are being delivered in Northumberland.

These schemes will build upon the current walking and cycling offer in Northumberland working towards a connected county for users to enjoy.
