Community transport options

Group transport, local bus services, and car schemes.

Northumberland has many client groups with diverse community transport needs throughout the county.

Group transport

  • this is referred to as 'Section 19 Minibus Permit Work'
  • it can include a dial-a-ride service for registered users, but not to the general public

Local bus services

  • this is referred to as 'Section 22 Minibus Permit Work'
  • local buses run to a schedule and are open to any fare-paying passenger on a not-for-profit basis

Car schemes: voluntary and community options

  • this includes volunteers providing transport in their own cars for eligible users
  • journeys are organised by a co-ordinator, the car owner receives a contribution towards the running costs
