Astley Park, Seaton Delaval

Astley Park features a range of activities for people of all ages. The park is home to a pavilion, play areas, a bowling green, tennis courts and gardens.

The park features a variety of activities for the whole community to enjoy including a bowling green, play areas, skating facilities, a community garden and paths and seating for relaxing walks through the park.

Astley Park was laid out in the 1920s on land owned by the Hastings family of Seaton Delaval Hall. The park used to provide activities for the mining community.

Opening times and facilities

The park is currently open between 8:30am and dusk, seven days a week.

Public toilets

Public toilets are available in the park pavilion and include disabled facilities. The toilets are open during attendant hours and when the building is in use. The nearest public toilets outside of the park are located north, on the Avenue Head roundabout.

Bowling green

Park Pavilion

Astley Park pavilion has been restored, making it one of the main attractions of the park. The pavilion is ideal for parties and coffee mornings.

Play areas

There are play areas suitable for children of all ages, including a climbing wall, climbing frame and a zip wire.

Gardens and greenery

Sports facilities

The park features a tennis court, basketball court, bowling green and skate ramps. There's something for all ages to enjoy.

Find Astley Park

Astley Park is located in the mining village of Seaton Delaval, in the south east corner of Northumberland.

Address: Astley Community Park, Seaton Delaval, Whitley Bay NE25 0AE.

The park is easy to get to with good transport links including bus stops situated on the streets around the park.

There is currently no facility for car parking within the park. Streets leading to the park are residential and offer limited spaces for parking.

There are three main entrances into the park:

  • Park Road - a pedestrian entrance with vehicular access on the north west boundary. 
  • Park View - a combined pedestrian vehicular access on the north east boundary, which also provides access to the council depot. 
  • Elsdon Avenue - this entrance provides an avenue style walk into the park and has no boundary fencing or gates.

Astley Park management committee plays a large role in the maintenance and management of Astley Park. The partnership was set up by the local community and Northumberland County Council to manage the pavilion.

Launching drones from County Council land is only allowed with the consent of the Council and where a formal license agreement has been signed. The council reserves the right to refuse consent and where consent is granted will require evidence of your Civil Aviation Training Certificate and public liability insurance.
