Briefing of drivers and passenger transport assistants
Briefing of drivers and passenger transport assistants
The type of contract being operated will determine the briefing and training needed. Safeguarding awareness training is provided by the council. This is targeted at PSV licenced drivers and passenger transport assistants deployed on council contracts.
Training and awareness
Taxi drivers receive a safeguarding awareness briefing during their taxi licence application.
We also arranges emergency Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and anaphylaxis awareness training for transport personnel.
Where necessary, child-specific training is arranged. This is delivered by paediatric nurses. Other more bespoke training is provided as and when required.
Transport operators must arrange and pay for their drivers and assistants to attend:
- one day emergency first aid course
- training on how to correctly load/unload and secure a wheelchair and apply a passenger restraint, including moving and handling training
- disability awareness training
- autism awareness training
- dementia awareness training
We'll provide information on accredited training providers.
Details of training undertaken should be recorded on the operator compliance sheets.
The operator is required to update and submit these for the start of each new school term.
