Grants, support schemes, and energy-saving advice to lower your heating and electricity costs.
Winter Fuel Payment
If you were born before 25 September 1957 you could get between £250 and £600 to help you pay your heating bills.
Cold Weather Payments
If you get certain benefits, £25 extra a week is available during the winter when the temperature is zero or below for more than seven days.
Help to Heat
You may be eligible for grants to improve the energy efficiency of your home, which could help to reduce your energy bills. If you're a homeowner you could be eligible for free energy efficiency installation such as:
- solar panels
- air source heat pumps
- wall and loft insulation

It will be cheaper for you to install energy saving materials such as thermal insulation or solar panels with 0% VAT for the next five years, helping to improve energy efficiency in your home and keep heating bills down.

Rural support for residents using oil, coal and LPG
Community Action Northumberland operates a bulk buying scheme (OilCAN) for residents purchasing oil, coal and LPG. Residents can join the scheme for £12 per year to access fuel at lower prices.

Northern Powergrid Priority Services Membership
Customers needing extra support and advice on the energy in their home can join the Northern Powergrid Priority Services Membership (PDF)free.
You'll be able to register if you are a resident who relies on electricity for the following:
- medical reasons, including equipment
- have a chronic or serious illness
- have a mental health condition
- if your mobility is limited
- if you're elderly
- have children aged 5 or below
