Locating a record

Missing records

We'll try our best to advise which county may hold it.

Incomplete registers

Some marriage registers may not have been completed.

This is usually the ones used by the Church of England, or other places of worship.

These registers stay at the church. We can give you the contact details of the person responsible for the marriage entry.

Ensure the register you are looking for has taken place in Northumberland since 1837.

Order a copy certificate

A copy of a birth, death, marriage, or civil partnership certificate can help find a record.

Copy certificates cost £12.50.

Searching for a grave

Prior to 1900

Contact the Northumberland County Archives service:

Email: archives@northumberland.gov.uk
Telephone: 01670 624 358

After 1900

Contact the cemetery where you believe the person is buried.

Cemeteries may not have all records as some have been destroyed over the years by fire or floods.

Some older cemeteries, which are now closed, may be managed by parish or town councils.
