Memorials

A special way of remembering a loved one. There are several options to choose from to suit different budgets.

Memorial headstones

Must be installed by a monumental mason registered with the Northumberland County Council registration scheme.

Fixed vases

Subject to approval, they are permitted in all council cemeteries. They must be installed by a Northumberland County council registration scheme registered monumental mason.

Both headstones and fixed vases will need paperwork submitted to the relevant bereavement services office. The Monumental mason will do this.

Bronze memorial plaques

Can only be applied for and installed by Northumberland County Council. It can be fixed for 10 years to the edging along the paths in the garden of remembrance.

It is nine inches in length, three inches in depth and the inscription is cast.

The inscription must be no more than 75 letters, including spaces, on five lines.

Memorial plaques in designated cemeteries

Brass memorial plaques are available to lease for a 10 year period. They are six inches by four inches and can have an inscription of your choice. Northumberland County Council handles all applications and installations.

Memorial benches

Memorial benches with a bronze plaque can be purchased and placed in a suitable location in Northumberland if space is available.

A memorial bench must be placed solely by Northumberland County Council as this is a standardised agreed build.

All memorial benches come with a renewable 10 year lease.
